Short answer

Select your PNG or JPEG files in Finder, right-click, and choose NeatClick → Convert to → WebP. You’ll get new WebP copies alongside the originals or in your chosen output folder.

Convert the selected images with NeatClick

  1. 1

    Select your images

With NeatClick’s Finder extension enabled, select the PNG or JPEG files you want to convert.

  2. 2

    Choose WebP

Right-click the selection and choose NeatClick → Convert to → WebP.

  3. 3

    Use the new copies

Open a few WebP files to see how they look, then upload them to your website. Your originals stay in place.

Convert to WebP or Optimize for Web?

Use Convert to WebP to change the format. Choose Optimize for Web when you also want to resize large images: it caps the longest edge at 1920 pixels and uses WebP when available.

For a particular width, such as 800 pixels for a blog post, use Resize Exactly. For an upload limit measured in MB, use Make Under.

What about Finder’s built-in converter?

Quick Actions → Convert Image handles JPEG, PNG, and HEIF. For WebP, use NeatClick’s Convert to menu.

Some website platforms generate WebP when you upload an image. If yours does, you can upload the original and let the site handle it.

A quick look at logos and screenshots

For a transparent logo, preview the WebP on both a light and a dark background. For a screenshot, zoom in on the small text. That’s an easy way to spot fuzzy edges before they go on your site.

If one item fails

Open that image on its own and check that it’s fully downloaded. This batch action is for still images, so leave animations and multi-page images out of the selection.

If the menu is missing, the Support page covers Finder setup and the Services shortcut for iCloud folders.

Frequently asked questions

Can Finder’s Convert Image action create WebP?

Its built-in formats are JPEG, PNG, and HEIF. Use a converter with WebP output when that is the format your website needs.

Does WebP always make a smaller file?

It depends on the image. Compare the WebP copy with the original; simple graphics and screenshots can already be small as PNG.

Will conversion overwrite my PNG or JPEG?

No. NeatClick saves a separate WebP copy.
