Release notes

What’s new in NeatClick.

New actions, improvements, and fixes in every version.

Copy Text and everyday Finder tools for creating, renaming, moving, and preparing files.

Copy Text

  • Right-click a supported still image or PDF and choose Copy Text. Recognition runs on your Mac, with no file uploads.
  • Select images and PDFs together to copy text in one batch. Originals remain unchanged, and unreadable items are reported.
  • The existing PDF text action becomes Copy Text, preserving your saved menu preferences.

Everyday Finder actions

  • Create files from ten built-in starters or your own reusable templates, preview batch renames, and move or copy files to saved destinations.
  • Undo supported creates, renames, moves, and date changes while the affected files remain unchanged.
  • Save clipboard images, text, valid JSON/CSV, or links as files in the folder you choose.
  • Choose Flat, Standard, or Compact menus, hide or reorder actions, and search for actions in the app.
  • Inspect file properties, open Terminal or a supported editor, and preview file-date changes.
  • Edit custom template filenames and reuse filename cleanup recipes.

File safety and menu reliability

  • Cross-volume moves verify copied file contents and folder entries before removing the source.
  • Interrupted transfers retain completed outputs in job details. Skipped conflicts are reported separately.
  • Menu resolution reuses selection facts for large batches and tolerates duplicated saved preferences.

NeatClick 1.0.6 makes Finder action prompts and app windows behave more reliably.

Reliable Finder prompts

  • Finder actions no longer create a hidden or unnecessary NeatClick main window when they need input.
  • Confirmation and configuration panels stay in front without becoming tabs or attaching to the main window.

Predictable window behavior

  • Clicking NeatClick in the Dock reliably restores the main window after it has been closed.
  • If an action prompt is already open, it remains in front and the main window opens after the prompt is dismissed.
  • Action details open in their own focused windows from Home and notifications.

NeatClick 1.0.5 strengthens processing isolation and limits how long completed job data remains in memory.

Safer file inspection

  • File Inspector now analyzes files through NeatClick’s isolated processing service.
  • Inspection jobs share the same global queue and concurrency controls as other file actions.

Resource and privacy hardening

  • Completed job results and processing statuses are now retained within bounded limits.
  • Temporary clipboard and file-access payloads are discarded after their recovery window closes.

NeatClick 1.0.4 gives actions that need input their own focused panel without opening the main app window.

Standalone action prompts

  • Confirmation, configuration, password, PDF, composition, and folder-access prompts now open as independent floating panels.
  • Action prompts cannot attach to or become tabs inside the main NeatClick window.
  • Prompts appear on the active desktop with keyboard focus, then return focus to Finder when dismissed.

Background launch behavior

  • Finder actions suppress the main NeatClick window during a cold background launch, including when macOS creates it slightly after the action begins.
  • A main window that the user already opened remains untouched.

NeatClick 1.0.3 keeps Finder actions out of the way while making prompts and failures easier to notice.

Non-disruptive actions

  • Finder actions no longer open or create a NeatClick main window when they need input or cannot start.
  • The main NeatClick window is now limited to a single instance.

Clearer feedback

  • Improved the visibility and focus behavior of configuration, password, PDF, composition, and folder-access prompts.
  • Failures that happen before processing starts are delivered as macOS notifications instead of alerts attached to a background window.

NeatClick 1.0.2 adds license activation and secure in-app updates, with a reliability fix for PDF actions launched from Finder.

Licensing & updates

  • Activate a NeatClick license for up to two Macs and review its status from Settings.
  • Check for signed updates from the app menu or Settings, with automatic daily update checks after activation.
  • Perpetual licenses keep access to installed features, while the included update period controls eligibility for newer releases.

Finder reliability

  • Fixed Extract Pages and PDF to Images sometimes reporting that NeatClick could not start the job when launched from Finder.
  • NeatClick now obtains source-folder access before opening PDF page-selection controls in the containing app.

NeatClick 1.0.0 is here, bringing a complete file toolkit directly into Finder.

Finder workflow

  • File-aware actions appear from the Finder right-click menu.
  • A Services fallback brings NeatClick actions to iCloud-managed Desktop and Documents locations on affected macOS releases.
  • Favorites, recent actions, saved presets, custom output folders, progress, cancellation, and completion notifications.

Images & photography

  • Resize, compress, optimize, and convert JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, and supported AVIF images.
  • Strip metadata, remove location data, anonymize detected faces, extract RAW previews, and convert CMYK images to sRGB.
  • Create palettes, animated GIFs, stitched images, grids, and contact sheets.

Video, audio & subtitles

  • Compress video, convert to MP4, extract or remove audio, create GIFs, and join clips.
  • Convert audio to M4A or WAV, compress and join tracks, normalize levels, remove silence, and prepare podcast-ready copies.
  • Extract subtitles to WebVTT, convert, clean, and shift SRT or WebVTT files, and burn subtitles into video.

PDFs & documents

  • Compress PDFs, extract pages or text, export pages as images, and make scans searchable with on-device OCR.
  • Combine PDFs and images, sanitize PDFs, and merge compatible CSV files.
  • Every generated output uses collision-safe naming and validation before it replaces a temporary file.

Archives & sharing

  • Create individual ZIPs, Windows-friendly archives, and encrypted archives.
  • Safely extract ZIP and TAR archives into new folders.
  • Prepare metadata-free image copies and flattened PDFs for sharing.

Developer tools

  • Copy paths, folder trees, file contents, AI-ready context, Base64, Data URIs, and SHA-256 checksums.
  • Format and convert JSON, YAML, CSV, SVG, favicons, BOMs, and line endings.
  • Inspect Git repositories, app bundles, signatures, notarization, entitlements, architectures, and provisioning profiles.

Privacy & licensing

  • File processing stays on the Mac with no file uploads, analytics, or cloud account.
  • Perpetual license for up to two Macs with one year of new versions included.
